One of my favorite times of the year in Topanga Canyon is when the beautiful flowers of the blessed milk thistle appear. These thorny plants put out dramatic flowers that have such a powerful purple presence. No wonder people knew they were good medicine. Today’s use of milk thistle is known mainly as a liver herb. The liver is our powerhouse organ for detoxification. With all the known toxic chemicals we engage with on a daily basis it is crucial for people to be aware of what their livers have to deal with and to give them support in this task. The easiest way to get some milk thistle in your regimen is with a tea, tincture or supplement. Foods like cruciferous veggies and sulfur foods such as onions and garlic are also a great way to support the liver.
